Episode 81 made Shaula’s attachment to her Master finally click for me, then ended on a huge Book of the Dead cliffhanger.
Spoiler-free thoughts
Episode 81 is the most moving episode of Season 4 for me so far, and the one that has left me most eager to see what comes next. Shaula’s feelings finally make complete sense, while the final scene stops at exactly the point that raises the biggest question. I had no real complaints about this episode. It is a 10/10 for me.

Four hundred years for four days
Shaula waited 400 years for her Master, only to spend four days with him—and Subaru was unconscious for two of them. That contrast hit me hard.
This episode finally made me understand why she is so attached to him. After being alone for so long, she finally meets the person she has been waiting for. Of course she wants to stay close. She is not simply clingy; she is afraid of being separated again and losing the companionship she waited centuries to find.
The Book of the Dead cliffhanger
The episode ends just as Subaru finds his own Book of the Dead. Cutting away at that exact moment creates such a huge cliffhanger that I am even more excited for the next episode.
For now
Season 4 is still airing, so I am not giving the whole season a rating yet. For Episode 81 alone, though, Shaula’s story and that final cliffhanger both landed perfectly. This episode is a full 10/10 for me.
